The Mutant's Dilemma
Modern medicine could give you the body you need so perfectly that no one would be able to tell the difference. So perfectly that you might as well have been born into it. You wouldn't even have surgery scars. If. If you weren't a mutant.
Part of it's the surgery itself -- it would be risky finding someone you could trust, and then they probably wouldn't do it. Your physiology is unique. It'd be too risky, too expensive, all of that. You could end up a mess. Or dead. Or a dead mess.
But more than all that is your programming. Yeah, programming. All mutants seem to have it. This extreme conditioning against changing yourself. Thinking seriously about modifying your birth body almost literally makes you black out. Did they do this on purpose? Trap you in a body that's never felt right to you? Or was it just the luck of the draw? You suspect you'll never know...
The Limits of Change
Yeah, no burning twice as bright for you. But maybe there's some work you can have done. Sensible prosthetics, perhaps. That's different. And besides your mission, you've got your programming to think about. You can just about think about doing something minor without blacking out, as long as there's no way it could affect your mutation. That you just can't change. The mental horror at the idea runs deep.
Embracing the Change
Maybe burning twice as bright sounds good... or maybe you don't believe that you'll succumb to that fate. Extra arms, weird genitals, a face of metal, legs five feet long. Biological, mechanical, all mixed together...
It makes you think -- there must be a lot of money to be made, being a freak in this city. The higher end sex trade is obvious, but not the only option. You'd be in demand as a performer, one way or another.
How It Works (Game Mechanics)
So what are you thinking? New flesh, or just a new piercing?
- Some modifications are harder to pursue than others.
- Some might require a good deal of Modification/Habituation.
- Your Modification/Attitude can also make a difference.
- For most modifications, you’ll also need to speak with your close contacts before going ahead.
- Use Manage your life if you want to drop a project after you’ve chosen it.
Body Modifications
Piercings
You might as well start simple.

Split tongue
There’s nothing new about getting this done – people have split their tongues for what, a century? More? But it is a big deal. It takes a lot of getting used to, from what you’ve heard.

Breast creation
You don’t identify as trans. Maybe that’s changing, or maybe not. But you don’t have to be trans to want a nice pair of boobs, do you? Cross dressing is its own thing. Or just wanting boobs for no reason at all. But all that said, it would be a big step.

Facial feminisation
This procedure will grant the 'feminine' quirk and remove quirks such as 'chiselled'. You might also gain other physical quirks and will lose most types of facial piercings as part of the surgery.

Prosthetic arm

Muscle grafts
You’ve seen people around looking far more than naturally jacked. You’ve also heard that this kind of thing is bad quality work. Hackjob stuff that’s not meant to last. But you don’t care. You want it.

Implants
About Implants
Implants are cybernetic hardware that can be installed in your body. Most implants give a static bonus to 1 or 2 Traits, plus a card in the Deck/Life/Survival that gives the choice of raising a skill, boosting some stats, or some other benefit. The skill increases only apply the skills that are below the average of the three skills, so usually only 1 or 2 at a time.
A character with all the known implants installed would probably have Charisma +4, Cunning +2, Discipline +1, Perception +2, Reflexes +7, Resilience +1, Stamina +7, and Strength +7. They might also get crippling levels of Black shakes at the drop of a hat.
Getting Implants
At the Start of the Game
- Your Character starts with one implant from a list of choices.
- You may have the option to pay Credits for a second implant from the same list. This purchase persists between lives.
- Additionally, you can acquire a Neural Interface for credits, allowing you to start with up to three implants. This purchase does NOT carry over between lives.
During Gameplay
- The Backstreet Clinic: Readily available in the Cinci Slums, it offers the widest selection of implants with low-risk installations.
- The One-time Clinic: Cheaper and quicker, but installations are riskier. They offer some unique implants but must be found first.
- The Cyberchurch: Offers three unique and somewhat pricey implants with low-risk installations.

Cognitive enhancer
Type: Neural / CognitiveThe Cognitive Enhancer is a complex neural implant that provides a significant boost to analytical thinking, cunning, and discipline. Unlike implants that simply augment existing abilities, the enhancer fundamentally changes the user's thought processes. While greatly improving analytical and logical reasoning, it comes at the cost of creative and free-form thinking.
Wired reflexes
Type: Neural / Reflex BoosterA popular implant among the "street samurai" class, Wired Reflexes enhances the user's reaction time and sensory input. Despite its name, the system provides a greater boost to perception than to reflexes. A significant downside is a reported worsening prognosis for the "black shakes."

About Quirks
Quirks are special conditions or personality traits that your character can gain or lose throughout the game. They can affect your stats, unlock new story options, or block you from certain actions and modifications.
Physical Traits
Brutal features
Even on a man, these features would look a little more than you could call "chiselled". Your face isn't exactly unattractive, it's just harsh.
Chiselled
You've just got these kinds of features. Good looking? Sure, but anyone can look good. Doesn't mean that they look as masculine as you.
Exceptional beauty
It's your beauty that's exceptional, not that you're exceptionally beautiful. Maybe some people would say it looks otherworldly, even alien. Too symmetrical, or the shape of your eyes and mouth... or just, something.
Feminine
There's something about how you look that's somehow female. Not something you've chosen, just the way you were born. Subtle cues in the shape of your face and the cut of your body.

Flat chested
Is having almost no boobs a bad thing? Probably not. Suits you just fine, in fact.

Gaunt
It doesn't matter how much you eat. You've got this hollow look about you. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but you've noticed people often look at you like they want to offer you a sandwich.
Heavy stride
People can hear you coming, and no mistake.
Heterochromia
You were born this way -- eyes two completely different colours. It's a mutation, but a natural one. Not the kind of thing Tower will murder you for.
Hightower
You're not just tall. Not just a little over average. You tower over people. Even people who might consider themselves tall.
Huge nose
It's normal from the front. Even attractively slim. But from the side? It's like a fucking sail.
Kind of ugly
You can't deny it: yours is the kind of face only a mother could love. You don't look *terrible*. Just slightly off. The wrong combination of the wrong features.

Large chested
Yeah, they're almost big enough for you to think about having them reduced. Not that this a bad thing, necessarily. Sure, there might be such a thing as too big, but not when they're so perfectly proportioned.
Light footed
You flit over the ground, almost totally silent when you want to be. No old floorboard's going to creak for you, despite your size.
Long and cool
You're tall, sure. Tall for a female body, anyway. But that's not really it. It's something about your figure, legs, waist, hips... but much more importantly, it's just how you carry yourself. It's not even learned. It's how you've always moved.
Long fingers
They're not unnaturally long, just abnormally long. Long and elegant.
Long neck
It's not freakishly long -- you're not an alien or a mutant. At least not in that way. It's just long and slender. Elegant, and you know instinctively how to hold it. Like a model.
Long tongue
You're just an outlier on the normal curve with this thing. Someone might notice if they're getting intimate with you, but not otherwise.
Masculine
There's something about how you look that's somehow male. Not something you've chosen, just the way you were born. Subtle cues in the shape of your face and the cut of your body.

They're saggy and not well proportioned. Nothing to do with getting older.

Academic
Learning seems to come easily to you... or maybe that's not it. Maybe you simply enjoy it, and that makes you study harder.

Body Builder
Maybe you started out this way, or maybe you've only really realised it of late. But you care much more about your size and associated look than you do about strength... or maybe anything else.
