What Are Traits?
Traits are the base stats that your character has, and will remain the same or mostly the same throughout the game. These stats test what your character is inherently capable of in different situations and work with skills to define capabilities. When you create a new character, all traits will be at 10, but they are tweaked slightly by different choices you make at The guard post: what are you? and The guard post: any augs?. You don't have to make these choices immediately, but you will have to do so before you leave the first area of the game.
The Core Traits
- Charisma: Getting to know people. Getting them to like you.
- Cunning: A certain guile. Raw intelligence. Leverage where it counts.
- Discipline: An iron will. Mastery over yourself.
- Perception: Not just looking. Seeing. Really seeing.
- Reflexes: Speed is of the essence.
- Resilience: Coping with the world.
- Stamina: How far are you willing to go? How hard?
- Strength: Physical strength solves a lot of problems in this place.
Modifying Traits at the Start of Game
The following is a list of ways to modify your traits during character creation.
Choice: What Are You?
At "The guard post," you are presented with the following options:
- Male: +2 Strength, +2 Stamina, +1 Discipline, -1 Charisma
- Female: +2 Charisma, +2 Resilience, +1 Reflexes, -1 Strength
Additionally, you can choose neither and (possibly) gain 1 Carpe diem, but you will still be forced to choose after that. This choice only determines your biological sex, and other options exist later on.
